The biggest tournament in college ice hockey is the "Play-In". This tournament is very similar to the start of regular season in NHL. Teams would be split into teams based on their region in a Play-In tournament. These teams would then compete for one spot in the main tournament.

The "PLAY IN" tournament follows the same format as the division I or II tournaments. The difference is that the "PLAY-IN" tournament does not have players divided by region.
